But comparing with how buildOpenAIResponsesResponse() (openai-responses.ts:442-454) constructs a proper ResponseItem::Message, there are three missing fields:
id — every message item in the Responses API has an id field (e.g. msg_xxx). Codex's Rust deserializer (ResponseItem::Message) likely expects or uses this for subsequent previous_response_id tracking.status — the normal response uses status: "completed". If Codex's serde struct has this as a required field, deserialization will fail.annotations: [] on the output_text content part — every output_text in the existing codebase includes annotations: [] (see lines 449-451 in openai-responses.ts). Codex Rust OutputText likely has annotations: Vec<Annotation> which needs at least an empty array.The upstream passthrough path (fallback) returns the real OpenAI response which will have all these fields, so this only affects the Lore-generated summary path. If Codex hits the Lore path and the response deserializes incorrectly, compaction silently fails or crashes the Codex session.
Fix: Match the format used by buildOpenAIResponsesResponse:
